I've always been a third gen fbody fan, when I found a clean 84 with a l69 305 and t5 5 speed. I had to scoop her up.
Some History on the Pontiac Trans Am
The Pontiac Trans Am was introduced in 1969 as part of the first generation of Pontiac Firebird muscle cars. The name "Trans Am" was inspired by the Trans American Racing Series, a popular road racing series in the late 1960s. The first generation Trans Am was available as a hardtop or convertible, and was powered by a choice of V8 engines, including the 400-cubic-inch Ram Air III and the 455-cubic-inch Ram Air IV. The car was marketed as a high-performance sports coupe, and was characterized by its distinctive "screaming chicken" hood decal, sporty styling, and powerful engine options.
Throughout the 1970s, the Trans Am continued to evolve, gaining new features and improved performance, and becoming an iconic muscle car in the process. The car was also featured in several popular movies and TV shows of the era, further solidifying its place in American pop culture. In the 1980s and 1990s, the Trans Am underwent several changes, including a switch to more fuel-efficient engines and the introduction of new technology and features.
Today, the Pontiac Trans Am remains a popular collector's item, with many enthusiasts still enjoying its classic muscle car style and performance. The legacy of the Trans Am continues to inspire new generations of car enthusiasts, and the car remains an iconic part of American automotive history.
Heres the Story on How and Why I LT1 Swapped my Trans Am
Well, I've aways been a LT1 fan. They are one of the best preforming small-blocks ever made, so why not. It also doesn't hurt when you buy a 96 z28 Camaro with a 6 speed. I originally was going to put the t56 behind the 305, but why when I had a good LT1 that I converted over the a 411 PCM. With the LT1, I gained fuel injection and a lot more power.
It was rather easy to convert over to the 411 ECM. All I did was Follow was HorsePowerTube on youtube wiring guide and used the factory wiring diagrams for a 96 Camaro z28 and a 02 express van. I have bundled a file package with helpful diagrams to help anyone that wants to do this themselves. Which can be found here.
